The publication titled Doctoral Education in Hungary: Past, Present and Future, published in 2026, provides a comprehensive overview of doctoral education in Hungary. It was prepared jointly by the Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates and the National Innovation Agency, with the aim of presenting the development of the system, its current state, and the background to the reforms introduced in recent years. The publication describes the historical development of doctoral education, analyses the situation of doctoral students and the challenges facing the system, and then presents the new three-pillar doctoral training model introduced in 2025. Overall, it is a policy-oriented publication that seeks to show how doctoral education can be made more attractive and effective, thereby strengthening Hungary’s scientific and innovation talent pipeline.
